Dr Laurence Shalloo
Senior Research Scientist, Dairy Production Research Department,
Teagasc, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork, Ireland

Graduated from the faculty of agriculture in UCD with a degree in animal and crop production in 1999. Subsequently pursued a Phd in dairy systems modeling based at Teagasc, Moorepark under the supervision of Dr. Pat Dillon, Teagasc, Moorepark, in conjunction with Dr. Myles Rath and Dr. Michael Wallace from the faculty of Agriculture, UCD. The PhD involved developing, validating and applying a stochastic budgetary simulation model of a dairy farm to analyse the effects of technical and institutional change on the farm system. This model has been used extensively to answer pertinent questions within the dairy industry in Ireland. Current research involves EBI development, milk quota policy research, milk pricing, development of optimum milk supply profiles for the dairy industry, development of futuristic systems of milk production, modeling GHG emissions, development of an economic based grass selection index and development of a benchmarking system for the Irish Dairy Industry.
