Third Level Postgraduate -- Sept 2001 – Nov 2004.

PhD Research Degree in Animal Breeding and specifically in the identification of the characteristics of the strain of Holstein-Friesian cow that is best suited to Irish pasture-based systems of milk production. This research study was conducted under the Walsh Fellowship Scheme in a joint collaboration between the Dairy Production Research Department, Teagasc, Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork and the Department of Animal Science, University College Dublin. All aspects of animal performance including production, reproduction, health, efficiency and behaviour have been measured, and finding published in international journals. The results of the study highlight the traits meriting inclusion in our National breeding programme and selection index (EBI).
